HARIDWAR
Haridwar is the
gateway to the four pilgrimages of Uttarakhand. It's also your
starting point on the journey to the sacred sources
of the Ganga and the Yamuna Rivers. This holy city is home to some

Kumbha Mela
The largest religious gathering in the world! According to
astrologers, the 'Kumbh Fair' takes place when the planet Jupiter
enters Aquarius and the Sun enters Aries.
Kumbha (Kumbha means pot) Mela (means fair) is a sacred Hindu
pilgrimage
The Kumbh Mela is huge gathering of Sadhus and Gurus from all over
India & abroad. They come in Millions from all the corners for this
common goal.
RISHIKESH
24 Kms. from
Hardwar. Located in the laps of lower Himalayas, and is surrounded
by scenic beauty of the hills on three sides
with Holy Ganga flowing through it. The whole place is considered to
be sacred as it is believed that meditation at this place
leads to attainment of salvation. There are many temples-some
ancient, some new along the river Ganges. Rishikesh is
important not only as pilgrimage centre closely associated with the
Ramayana, but also as home for many important centres
of Hindu religious thought and spirituality, and as a very great
Yoga Centre.
ATTRACTIONS:
Bharat Mandir:
It is an engrossing temple established by Adiguru Shankaracharya
near in the 8th century AD. It is in the center of the old town on
the Banks of the River Ganges. According to the ancient records, it
is one of the oldest temples of Rishikesh and is among the most
important places to visit in Rishikesh. In the inner sanctum, you
will find an idol of lord Vishnu. Several old statues, coins, pots
and other artifacts of historical importance have been found during
recent excavations within the premises.
Rishikund:
It is located adjacent to Triveni Ghat and is one of the most
significant among the tourist attractions in Rishikesh. According to
the legend, this pond was saturated by Goddess Yamuna and it mirrors
the temple of Ragunath, which is devoted to lord Rama and his wife.
Triveni Ghat:
It is a sacred spot where the pilgrims swarm to for a holy dip. A
large number of pilgrims throng in to this place every evening to
attend the Ganga Arti that takes place at this Ghat.
Geeta Bhawan:
This is the oldest temple complex in the entire area and you can
find the description of well-known Indian epic Ramayana and
Mahabharata on its walls. Only peace and harmony seem to dwell at
this place and it is must visit among the tourist attractions in
Rishikesh.
Lakshman Jhula:
It is one of the most prominent landmarks at Rishikesh. This is a
suspended bridge and was built in the year 1929. According to the
beliefs, the river at this place is said to have been crossed by
Rama’s brother Lakshman using a jute rope. To savor the panoramic
views of the surroundings and the cool breeze, this bridge is an
ideal spot.
DEVPRAYAG
Devprayag is
situated in Uttarakhand. This is the point where, the Alaknanda and
Bhagirathi rivers conjoin to form River Ganga. Devprayag is
considered to be on one of the holies places of pilgrimage for the
Hindus.
ATTRACTIONS:
Raghunathji
Temple:
It is one of the oldest temple of lord Rama in India as It is more
then 10,000 years old. The temple is made
up of rocks slightly above the confluence of holy Alaknana and
Bhagirathi rivers. The Special aarti of temple is sung on
special occasions and even a non believer of god rhymes to its tune.
The temple is dedicated to lord Rama & many devotees
visit this place every year. The shrine of Rama was shattered by an
earthquake in 1803 but was subsequently repaired by
Daulat Rao Scindia. According to Myths and Legends, The shrine is
dedicated to lord Rama, when he came back to Ayodhya
after his victory over Lanka. The temple compound also hosts
Annapurna Devi temple, Hanuman temple, Shankaracharya.
Chandrabadni:
The deity of the divine Chandrabadani Temple is Goddess Sati, The
consort of Lord Shiva. According to myths and Legends the torso of
Goddess Sati was accidentally felt here when lord Shiva was carring
her. The temple holds great religious importance amongst the people
of Uttarakhand. The temple is situated 22 Kms from Devprayag. There
are some ancient statues and numerous iron trishuls outside the
temple and the splendid panoramic vistas of the Himalayan range can
be seen from here.
Dashrathshila:
This is the place where Raja Dashratha, Father of lord Rama
performed penance. There is small water here
named after Raja Dashrath’s daughter, Shanta. The seat of Dashrath
is one a small hillock called Dashrathachal Peak
New Tehri:
It is the only planned town of Uttrakhand State made during the
construction of the Tehri dam. Every month thousands
of tourists visit Tehri to see the stagnant water of the massive
Tehri Dam. The Dam is amidst high mountains many of which
are submerged under water. New Tehri Dam is very well connected with
motorable roads. It is situated 66 Kms from Devprayag
